Your First Visit Sets The Tone For Long-Term Oral Health
Whether it’s your first visit or your first visit in a while, a comprehensive dental exam helps us understand your needs and set a plan that fits.
We begin every new patient relationship with a full dental exam and a conversation. It’s about more than just checking for cavities — we take the time to get to know your oral health history, listen to your concerns, and explain what we see along the way.
Your first visit gives us a chance to understand your teeth, gums, jaw, and bite — and gives you the opportunity to ask questions, share goals, and feel confident in your care plan. For many patients, this is the beginning of a long-term relationship built on trust and clarity.
What To Expect
During a new patient or routine exam, we may check:
Your teeth for signs of decay, wear, or damage
Your gums for inflammation, recession, or early signs of periodontal disease
Your bite and jaw movement
Any existing restorations (fillings, crowns, bridges, etc.)
Soft tissues for signs of oral cancer or other concerns
Diagnostic imaging (X-rays or CBCT scans, as needed)
Your overall oral hygiene habits and areas for improvement
If anything needs attention, we’ll walk you through the options and explain why we’re recommending a particular approach. You’ll never feel rushed — and we’ll always make sure you’re informed before making a decision.
Who This Visit Is For
Comprehensive exams are for everyone. Whether you’re a new patient, returning after a break, or simply due for your six-month checkup, this visit helps us catch small issues early and prevent more complex problems later.
For younger patients, we adjust the exam to fit their comfort level — introducing them to the space, using simple explanations, and keeping the experience positive.
Why It Matters
Early detection and prevention are key to long-term oral health. Regular exams allow us to:
Catch cavities while they’re small and easier to treat
Monitor gum health and prevent progression of disease
Check for hidden issues below the surface with imaging
Track changes over time and adjust your care as needed
Even if you’re not feeling discomfort, it’s important to stay on top of routine exams. Many dental concerns develop slowly and silently — and addressing them early can often mean simpler, more comfortable solutions.
